511 Faye at FNB Tower: A Stylish New residential community in Downtown Raleigh

Home to the new regional headquarters of First National Bank, FNB Tower is a 22-story mixed-use development in Downtown Raleigh that completed construction in 2019 and hosts 325,869 square feet of Class A office, retail, and residential apartment space. From early on in the construction phase, we partnered with developer Dominion Realty Partners on their fitness amenity plans for 511 Faye, a luxury apartment community housed in FNB Tower that features high-rise views of the city and leverages the latest in fitness technology.

511 Faye offers 239 apartments in studio, one, and two bedroom configurations. In addition to a myriad of in-home amenities including Nest thermostats, Bluetooth® keyless locks, floor-to-ceiling windows and all new appliances, residents also have unlimited access to community amenities, topped off with a state-of-the-art fitness center overlooking the rooftop pool and the panoramic views beyond. This sky-high amenities package is hard to match, and it has turned into a major selling point for new residents.

Inside the Fitness Amenity Design Process

This was a very exciting project for us from a design perspective. With the fitness center planned for the 9th floor, it was important to capitalize on the amazing views of Downtown Raleigh and make sure the space was filled with equipment that was exceptional in form, function, and technological enhancements. Our local Sales Manager Teresa Boland was able to walk the construction site early on with Chris Carlino and Sherry Collins from Dominion Realty Partners, which was very helpful and informative to the design of the fitness space. After the walkthrough, Teresa knew just how to stage the the room to take full advantage of the breathtaking vantage point.

Since 2000, Raleigh has experienced a 133% increase in population and is known as hot spot for science and technology industries. The décor in the building reflects the modern, energetic spirit of the young professionals that comprise the majority of the city’s demographics. Because of that we knew that our fitness solution had to meet the highest of standards. We chose a black-on-black color scheme for our equipment to complement the interior design elements in the space - vibrant red carpeting and a tech-inspired wall mural.

Designing for the 9th floor also meant that we had to accommodate the building’s infrastructure. Typically, our functional training and storage solutions would be bolted and anchored into the floor, but in construction built with post tension slabs, anchoring is not an option. Our solution? A freestanding functional frame from our partners at Escape Fitness. The inclusion of this compact, freestanding HIIT Hub unit allowed us to offer a range of functional training and accessory storage options with a small footprint.

Future-Proofing with Technology

In this day and age, no fitness center would be complete without a variety of technological integrations. Our equipment mix places technology at the forefront with Precor cardio equipped with networked P62 touchscreens. All networked cardio from Precor provides instant access to personalized entertainment apps such as Netflix, Spotify, and WatchESPN. And with Single Sign-On technology, exercisers with a Preva account only need to sign into their favorite entertainment apps once for the cardio machines to automatically sign them in during future workout sessions.

Placing the world at residents’ fingertips, both the Aviron Rower and Precor cardio’s RunTV offer a selection of on-demand, immersive video footage from the most iconic locations worldwide, seamlessly synced to match the exerciser’s pacing and resistance settings.
